

Arthur Anthony James was born the first child of James Allen James and Thelma Freeman James on March 19, 1947 in Berkeley, CA. He was educated in the New Orleans, Louisiana public school system through his middle school years. Upon his family returning to California in 1962, he continued his high school education, graduating from Centennial High School of Compton in June 1965. It was there that he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, the former Cynthia Johnson. After high school, Arthur James found work as a clerk and eventually as an assistant manager at Clark Drug Store. He married Cynthia Johnson on September 13, 1969 and had two children: a son Brian Anthony James and a daughter Alicia Annette James. Arthur James then found employment at Alpha Beta Grocery Company, where he retired in March of 2003, working a total of 37 years in the retail stores industry. Arthur James was an avid listener of jazz music and played the flute as a hobby. He would frequently play the flute with church choirs and out of shear enjoyment. Arthur James gave his life to the Lord at an early age and re- dedicated his life to the Lord at age 50. He was always available to family and friends in person and especially by phone. Arthur James leaves behind his wife, Cynthia James, a son, Brian Arthur James, a daughter, Alicia Hill, two grandsons: Lawrence Walters and Brett Anthony James, and two granddaughters: Brianna Alyscia James and Carlynn Jai Hill. Arthur James also leaves behind brothers Allen James and Malcom James and sisters Camille Hodges and Annette Davis in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relations and friends.
