Betty Josephine Young

Born December 14, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Frances and Jack Legrow, Betty peacefully entered into her eternal joy on June 1, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was eager to share God’s great love with everyone, especially children. Betty was founding director of First Lutheran Church Preschool in Long Beach. She also founded their Say Y.E.S. program and initiated Saturday “Play Days”. Betty’s greatest joy was her Lord and she desired that all would come to know Christ Jesus as Savior. Her legacy is the love she poured out on her family and friends.

Survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, Robert, children Nancy (Harold), Philip (Jill), Rev. Victor (Debora), David (Lesa), and Andrew (Elaine), 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, she also leaves many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Now in heaven she looks forward to seeing her mother and father, Jackie, James, and Donald.

Visitation is Friday, June 3 from 4-7 PM at Luyben Family Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Road in Long Beach. Betty’s Memorial Service is 11:00 Saturday morning, June 4, at First Lutheran Church, Ninth and Atlantic in Long Beach.

The family is grateful for all who touched and blessed Betty’s life. Donations are preferred, in lieu of flowers, to First Lutheran Church’s Preschool and Say Y.E.S ministries in Jesus’ name.
