March 7, 1960 – June 12, 2014
Brian Jay Gough was born to Joseph and Arlene Gough in Long Beach California where he lived until 1973. The family then moved to Seal Beach where he attended Los Alamitos High School. After starting college he went to work for a local alarm company, later he started his own business, Superior Protection Services. He married and subsequently became the father of three wonderful daughters. They then moved to Cypress, California. He made many lifelong friends along the way from his neighborhood friends, occupational clients and providers, as well as a wonderful family in Christ.
He is survived by his daughters Brianne, Jessica and Hanna; older siblings Mary Marcoux, Gary and Janet Gough; longtime companion Debi Farris; and his extensive church family. He has left a tremendous void in all their lives but he also has left them with the gift of having him grace their lives.
*A Life of Great Love and Devotion*
Brian’s life was consumed with love at a very early age. Sometimes it was as simple as following the neighborhood yard man around with his own makeshift lawnmower or his favorite TV show, Daniel Boone. When told that it was bedtime afterwards, his standard response was always "as soon as I see the exciting scenes from next week’s episode". He was never bashful and was always the first to try to make friends on summer travels.
He was introduced to his Lord and Savior after the birth of Brianne and later became a member of Magnolia Baptist Church. He was definitely a man who trusted in the Lord and attempted to live the type of life required by his faith. He became an elder in the church, an AWANA game director and a willing participant in all the church activities. One of his greatest loves was the yearly trip to Hume Lake with his church family.
Brian contracted Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2002 and survived a torturous treatment. His faith never wavered throughout his illness. He was blessed with the loving response from his church family during this time. He knew that his faith and love was what brought him through it and into remission.
He loved taking Debi to play board games with his friends, the Elizondos and McMillens, going to movies, riding his bike with friends, using his annual Disneyland pass with Debi and family, watching old John Wayne movies, NCIS and sports.
He loved his daughters above all else. They became the primary focus of his life. He was so very proud of each of them. It is not enough to say he was devoted to them like only a single father can be. They were his greatest joy. He had great hopes and dreams for them and the only regret in his life will be not being able to be there for their marriages and the joy of grandchildren.
Brian had so much to live for and so many things left undone. He loved life and family so much he is probably waiting for “the exciting scenes from next week’s episode”.
