He was born on July 4, 1929, to George K. Nosko of Zavatka, Czechoslovakia and Mary Nosko (née Kulback) of Johnstown, PA.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean Nosko (née Fore). He is survived by one sister: Carol Jean Nosko-Quesada; daughters: Nancy Jean Nosko, Carole Lynn Nosko, and Sharon Marie Saria; step children: Ruth Lyn Schaefer, and Vincent Michael Leandro; grandsons: Teagan Christopher Collins, Brad Lee Scott Dallair and Douglas Christian Saria, and step granddaughter Tiffanie Marie Schaefer; great-grandchildren: Genevieve Lynn Turner Dallair and Henry George Pierre Dallair; nieces and nephew: Wendy Kuchkuda, Roberta Buess, Sue Locasio, Ben Custer, Karin Nosko-Sedell, and Laura Nosko-Groves.
George “Junior” was 4th in line in a family of eight children: Agnes, Steve, Barbara, George J., Esther, Donald, Edward, and Carol. They grew up in the family home in Johnstown, PA.
He worked for Bethlehem Steel as a Die Repairman until he was laid off in 1950. That same year he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was deployed to France during the Korean War as part of the Communications Division. He was Honorably Discharged in 1954 with the rank of Staff Sargeant.
He found his way to Long Beach, CA and graduated from Long Beach City College with an Associate of Arts Degree with a Certificate in Business and Technology in 1956. He worked for General Telephone Company for 35 years as Lineman and then as Installer and Repair. He met Betty and they married on August 10, 1957, at St. Bartholomew’s Church. As his family grew, he sometimes worked at night as a mechanic at a nearby Mobile station.
He loved nature …camping and fishing, plant life, and most all animals. Dogs were his favorite – he had three over the years (Ginger, Stasia, and Maddie) and befriended many others in the neighborhood.
He was very private – he didn’t talk much about himself. But when he did, you could tell that he lived by a personal code of integrity. He stayed true to his core beliefs and took care of his family.
He will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
He is in God's care now.
