Georgia May Miller passed away peacefully on December 6, 2019 after a life filled with music, love, and family. Georgia was the only child of George Mitchell and Lenamae Carsten, born in Osawatomie, Kansas on February 10, 1924. She was a wonderful pianist, teaching music starting in high school and accompanying many choral groups and soloists. After moving with her parents to Long Beach in 1946, she began working at Morey’s Music Store. She married her husband James Edward Miller on October 13, 1945 after his honorable discharge from the Army. On January 24, 1947, Georgia and Jim welcomed Caroline Mitchell Miller to their family. Twelve years later on November 25, 1958, they completed their family with Jayme Giselle Miller. Combining her strong journey of faith and her love of music, Georgia took membership in the First Christian Church of Long Beach in the 1970s, where she was a pianist/accompanist for over 30 years. Over the years, she accompanied several choral groups such as the Women’s Chorus of Long Beach, the Choral Belles, and the Choralettes in addition to teaching music at Palos Verdes Estates Conservatory of Music. Georgia was thrilled to see her family grow when Jayme married James (Jim) Bernard Stockwell on October 3, 1987. Jim “has been very nice and helpful to [Georgia], driving [her] to church and never failing to encourage [her] to finish all of [her] food and abide by [her] curfew”. Over the years, Georgia gained quite the familial reputation for being a little too fond of orange cones while driving and for her perspective that quesadillas were merely a vehicle with which to enjoy sour cream. In 1988, Georgia and Jim Ed moved to Leisure World to enjoy retirement; they took many trips together to beautiful places such as Yellowstone, and Jackson Hole. On April 1, 1996, Georgia was delighted at the birth of grandson Kayden Stockwell, at which point Grandma stopped playing all of her practical jokes . She was “fiercely proud of his excellent academic achievement” and for many years made for a great late-night telephone buddy. With the daily help and care of her two wonderful daughters, Georgia continued living independently in Leisure World until early 2018, after which she moved in with Jayme, Jim, and several cats and a dog. Georgia is reunited with her husband, Jim Ed, and her parents, George and Lenamae. She is survived by daughters Caroline and Jayme, son-in-law Jim, grandson Kayden, and cousin Suzanne Yackey and Suzanne’s husband Harold Yackey.
