Hal was a true "native" California being born in Long Beach, on April 22, 1928. He attended Jane Adams Elementary and Lindbergh Junior High. At the young age of 16 (with parental approval), Hal joined the Merchant Marines (two years). He then enlisted in the US Navy (1 year) at the close of WWII. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, and best friend, Donna Lyn. They shared 52 years of marriage together.
Hal took great pride in his occupation as a firefighter. Although his "fire career" began in Idaho, he returned to California and became a member of the City of Beverly Hills Fire Dept, attaining the rank of Engineer. His dedication, and love of job, made it tough to retire after 30 years of honorable service.
Hal and Donna loved to travel and would often reminisce of their trips and travels of exploring old "Ghost Towns", taking in nature's wonders throughout the southwest, and their favorite, the church tour of Israel.
Hal is survived by three sons Bruce (Pam), Craig, and Mike (Debbie), eight grandchildren; Christina, Andy Kirk, Erik, Kelly, Sunny, Jeff, and Jamie. And three great-grandchildren; Cash, Raven, and Cruz.
Hal will be deeply missed by his many friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family.
Services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Long Beach, CA.
