Survived by his wife of 34 years, Theresa Pope, his three daughters, Shannon Morris, Mary Pope, Kellie Pope and son John Swan, his three grandsons, Travis, Dayton and Drake.
A native of Washington State, Lyle’s ship came ashore in Southern California in 1974, Lyle served four years in the United State Navy. Before his honorable discharge from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Theresa.
Lyle’s life work started in the USN, from there his road, with wife at his side; lead him to a meat packing plant in Kansas. Soon after this his road lead them back to Southern California where a job as a broiler tech at the Long Beach Shipyard awaited him. Several years at the shipyard, Lyle took a position at Caterpillar Co, as a mechanical tech where he worked very hard. After several years doing this, he knew that he wanted something more, something more serving. He applied and was accepted into the US County Marshall Department and eventually to Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. This was his long lasting career. Lyle retired from LA County Sheriffs, February 2009 after 30 years of service.
His loves: Theresa, his daughters and grandsons
His passions: cooking pancakes, coaching his daughters softball team, fishing, the roulette wheel, craftsman-wood, craftsman-wood, piddling (always a project in the making) and “the river”.
