Neda Martin passed away in her sleep on July 18, 2011. She was born Neda Emma Marinoff on December 18, 1922 in Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the oldest of 5 siblings, 4 girls and one boy. Neda met her husband, Paul, through her cousin Pauline in Montreal. Love blossomed and she soon married her cousin’s husband’s brother, (two cousins married two brothers). It turned into a huge family! Before long, Neda added to that family with her own two children, Dudie and Donna. In 1952 the family moved to California to begin their new life in the United States. Her sister Anna soon followed and a new family unit began. As the years passed both Neda and Paul began playing the game of Bingo and made many friends at various Catholic Churches and the Lakewood/ Hawaiian Gardens Elk’s Lodge. Neda was always “up” for get-togethers, whether for family or for her children’s friends. She was always willing to listen and give loving advice if you wanted it. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone which was the secret of her always happy attitude toward life. Complaining was a foreign concept to her. When Paul died in 1992 after 49 years of marriage, it was her Bingo friends and family that helped her through. Her faith in God set an example of perseverance and hope for all of us. She is survived by her son Dudie (Diana) and daughter Donna (Tom) along with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her only pet peeve was how people sometimes mispronounced her name. People would pronounce it Nee-da. She would say “It’s so simple, it’s Ned with a A”. We know God in heaven is pronouncing it right.
