one of four children. He passed away on January 20, 2012.
At a very young age Paul evidenced extreme love and passion for life. As a young child he cried, uncontrollably, when his mother left for any period of time, until she returned home to cuddle with him. He remained a lover and cuddler all his life, introducing “Family Cuddies” to his own family. It was during those times he, his wife, and two small children would crawl into bed together for a lot of laughter, “back tickles” and “Cuddies”.
Raised in a single parent home, Paul was extremely loyal to his mother (until the day she died), helped raise his younger brothers and began work at Lucky Stores with the Retail Clerk’s (now the UFCW) union in the early 70’s.
On Labor Day, 1984, Paul met Tina Whitt, the love of his life, and they were married on September 21, 1985. Their love was endless. In 1987 Paul Robert Austin Halpin was born and Kelsey Marie arrived six years later in 1993. Paul dedicated himself, and all his energy, creating a family environment he was not fortunate to have as a child. The Halpin name is carved and hangs over the entrance to their front door and a flag bears their name at the foot of his front steps. He was the consummate husband, father and homebody.
Paul was a man of immeasurable generosity, loyalty and endless hospitality. He remained in contact with every friend he ever had and one could always find at last two or three of them at his home during the week and countless friends on the weekend and holidays.
For the past 30 years Paul was heavily involved and successful in the exhibit tradeshow industry, remaining a union man, under the banner of Union 831 Tradeshow and Sign Crafts. He clients appreciated he attention to detail and his passion to put up the client’s product with impeccable precision while retaining his wit and humor. In 1999 Paul successfully started his own company known as On-Site Show Services while still carrying his union card.
In the past few years Paul’s health and stamina began to fail. Yet, assured by an employer he would always have a job, gave Paul permission to rest. It was also one of the many treasures he held in his heart up until the day he got “Show Ready” to meet his savior.
Paul is predeceased by both parents, “Big Lou,” Auntie Med and Aunt Bunny. He now waits for his family Tina, Paul Jr. and “Daddy’s Girl,” Kelsey. He also waits for his brothers Roger, Dana, his sister Joan, niece Kate Fickert, nephew Rob Whitt, many cousins, friends and “Daddy’s Puppy,” Dylan.
