Pauline Holmes

1923 – 2014

Paula Holmes, 90, passed away peacefully in Long Beach on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Paula was born in Los Angeles, California, on November 5, 1923. She met her loving husband, Allen Holmes, through a girlfriend when he moved to California after serving in the U.S. Army in World War II. Paula was married to Allen for 53 years before his passing in 2008. She worked in the office for Barker Bros. Furniture and spent lots of time at the beach in her younger years. Paula was a 55-year resident of Long Beach, living in only one home the entire time! She relished eating and enjoyed going out to dinner, shopping, reading, fresh flowers, talking with friends, and spending time with family. Paula prided herself on being a stylish dresser. Her favorite passions were being a mother and a grandmother. Paula especially loved Christmas and decorating for all holidays. She collected Santas, and her “signature” was sending an annual Santa card! Her radiant smile was contagious throughout her lifetime. Paula is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay Inglett; son-in-law, Eric Inglett; and two grandsons, Austin and Spencer Inglett. Rosary to be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Long Beach. Interment will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery. A memorial reception will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Long Beach Marriott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
