Sydney N. Miller, 88, has gone to be with her Lord December 6, 2010. She will be missed by so many, but we know she is happy being with her husband, Frederick, and her loving mother. Her life was full when she was with us. She came to Long Beach in 1934 from Arizona when her mother became ill. Sydney attended Franklin Jr. High School, going on to graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1940. She met her future husband, Frederick in 1939 and was wearing his ring by 1940. She returned to Phoenix, Arizona and entered nurses training at Good Samaritan Hospital. She and Fred were married in 1942 and were blessed with twins, John and Shirley (Murdie) and later with Bonnie (Kurtis). Her family increased with 5 grandchildren, Kindra, Jim, Randy, Greg and Tim, and then 12 great grandchildren (the loves of her life). She joined the beloved Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron 3 times and held other stations numerous times. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile. She traveled to Quebec as Grand Representative of Quebec in California and given membership to the Grand Chapter of Quebec and Louis Chapter in Point Clair, Quebec. Sydney still had time to work with and enjoy young people. She volunteered at Burcham and Marshall schools and received a service award from the California PTA to help a child go to college. She was an adult leader in Girl Scouts and helped with the Job Daughters Bethel. She and Fred played Mr. and Mrs. Santa for several years for underprivileged children, orphanages, and handicapped organizations. She leaves behind her family and many loving friends. Eastern Star Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, January 22, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Bellflower Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
