

William "Bill" Furst was called home to his Lord Jesus Christ on January 20, 2011. He was born July 5, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; their five sons, Jerry, David, Brian, John, Mike; and their daughter, Charlin. He will be missed by his 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Bill was a Navy veteran of 20 years serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He proudly served aboard the USS Kidd, USS Fox, USS Los Angeles, USS Rupertus, USS Cowell and the USS Point Defiance during his naval career. He was also stationed in Guam and retired from his final assignment at Terminal Island, Long Beach, California in 1966. After retiring from the Navy, Bill worked for Atlantic Richfield (Arco) and Soule Steel before retiring in 1983. Bill was an active member of Grace Brethren Church for over 25 years serving in many volunteer capacities to support the cause of Christ. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He spent many hours working in his yard and we will miss his roses. There is a memorial service planned for Monday morning, January 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 36th & Linden in Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the Grace Brethren Church Transformation Fund. Bill will be buried in the US National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
