With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Crystal Dawn Aytes Reaume, age 51, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on January 12, 2026, at her home. Born on August 8, 1974, in Pueblo, Colorado, Crystal's journey through life was marked by grace, resilience, and an unwavering spirit.
Crystal was the cherished daughter of Karen and John Gawrys, who nurtured her with love and instilled in her a thirst for knowledge and compassion. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Cheryl Aytes, and their bond remains a cherished memory for the family.
A proud graduate of Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas, Crystal excelled academically, graduating in the top 2% of her class.
Crystal's life took a brave and transformative turn when she joined the United States Air Force in February 1996. During her four years of service, she specialized in Non-destructive Inspection, primarily maintaining the Air Force Stealth Fighter. Her exemplary service earned her numerous commendations. Her intellectual curiosity and commitment to helping others led her to complete training as a Physical Therapist Assistant, where she graduated with honors.
Above all, Crystal was a devoted mother. Her sons, Ryan Sheppa and Zachary Sheppa, were the center of her universe. Her love for them knew no bounds. Crystal was a woman of many passions, including a deep love for animals, including horses, wolves, and particularly her beloved cat Lily, who remained her constant companion.
She found solace in solitude, often getting lost in the pages of her extensive hardcover book collection. Despite facing numerous physical challenges, some stemming from her military service, Crystal's resilience shone through, inspiring all who had the privilege to know her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Ryan and Zachary Sheppa, her parents, John and Karen Gawrys, her sister Elizabeth Glaab (Jim) of Scottsdale, Arizona and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
In remembering Crystal, we celebrate a life lived with courage, intelligence, and an enduring love for those she held dear. Rest in peace, dear Crystal. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew you.
