Dorthea Helen Gibbs Weber died on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 in Longview, TX, after a prolonged illness. She was born on August 29, 1932 in Laneville, TX to her parents, Charles Boyd Gibbs and Bonnie Ramey Gibbs. Dorthea was the second of five children born to her parents. She attended school in Cushing, TX.
Dorthea (Dot) married James Rogers and they had two children, Larry Rogers and Ann Rogers Brooking. Prior to their divorce, she was a sales clerk at Sears' Hardware and paint department and the Sporting goods department where she worked for 13 years. Dot had such a loving heart that she gladly took care of one of her sister's children when another child suffered severe burns and took care of one of Ann's fellow cheerleaders during her high school senior year so that she could graduate from the high school she had attended.
Dot married Don Weber on January 30, 1976 and 8 months later Dot and Don opened Allied Trophy and Engravement Shop. Dot mastered the art of engraving on the largest engraving machine on the market. She and Don ran a very successful business for 14 years and then sold it and retired to travel and indulge in their hobbies. Dot loved taking cruises, especially to the Bahamas, and she and Don frequented the horse races and the Las Vegas casinos . They enjoyed boating and fishing on the Bolivar Peninsula when they owned a beach cabin there. Dot enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and playing tennis, dominos and slot machines. Dot made individualized Christmas stockings for all members of the family that are deeply treasured. Mamama will be missed for her delicious fig preserves, chocolate peanut balls, banana bread and brisket. Mamama always put everyone else before herself and always had a smile on her face. Dot's parting words to the family are that she loved her husband and family very much.
The family would like to acknowledge the care provided by Haven Care Nursing Home in her later years.
Dot is survived by her sister, Artie Linthicum, her son Larry Rogers and his wife, Ruby Rogers, her stepdaughters, Kim Robinson (her husband James Godwin) and Monica Moore, her granddaughter Leigh Warren and her husband Jason Warren, her grandson Greg Brooking, her granddaughter Angie Rogers, her step granddaughter Rachal Frank, and 3 great grandchildren, Conner Alexander, Andrea Warren and Christian James Brooking.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles Gibbs, her sister Gayle Ivy, her sister, Louise Fountain and her daughter, Ann Brooking.
A Mass and Rosary will be said on Dot's behalf at St Anthony's Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Tuesday May 16th. Entombment will take place immediately afterwards at the Lakeview Memorial Garden at 5000 W. Harrison Rd in Longview. In lieu of flowers, Dot asked that donations be made to "one's favorite charity or donate a toy to a needy child, or take a friend to lunch".
