

Memorial services for Eugene "Sonny" Paige Broome, age 80, of Longview, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Greggton United Methodist Church under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 6-8 p.m. today, March 13, 2012, at the funeral home.
Eugene was born March 6, 1932, in Henderson, Texas, to Samuel and Mamie Eugenia Hudson Broome. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1950. He loved the class of 1950, and they were always very close. After high school, Eugene joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He and his wife Mary had a wonderful family that they loved very much.
Eugene spent his working years with several different companies: Henderson Daily News, Regan's Inc., Cush-Pac Inc., ABC Auto Parts and owned his own business for five years. Eugene loved to fish, dance, read and was even a part-time golfer. He loved his Sunday school class, the Welmaker-Joy class at Greggton United Methodist. JOY stood for Jesus First, Others Second and Yourself Last. This was how he lived his life.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Mary; sons, Guy Harris and his wife, Debbie, and Greg Harris; daughter, Stacey Sword; sister, Mary Ann Duran; brother-in-law, Max and Betty Miller; grandchildren, Elizabeth Burleson, Duncan Sword, Blake Harris, Bryan Harris, Lendea Harris and Hudson Harris; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as treasured friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
