

Ione Maxine Campbell passed away peacefully on January 15, 2014 at a local nursing center. She was born on February 26, 1929 in Hickok, Kansas and she and her family moved to Deerfield, KS in May of 1929.
Mrs. Campbell attended and graduated from the Deerfield school system. She was a member of the local Lutheran Church in Deerfield. She met her future husband, Herndon, “Slats” Campbell at the age of 16, but promised her father she would not marry until she turned 19. On April 4, 1948, she married Slats and they remained married until his death on July 5, 2002.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Longview and she worked several years in the daycare center at the Oakland Heights Baptist Church, caring for the little ones.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, H.M. “Slats” Campbell, her parents, Herman Curt Huner and Martha Sophie Norden Huner; two sisters: Valeta Dunsworth and Elta Love; and her brother: Martin Huner.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by her only child, daughter: Pat Metcalf and her husband Ed of Longview; grandchildren: Karen Powner and her husband John, and Krystle Eaton all of Pueblo, CO; Mac and Madeleine Metcalf of Longview; great grandchildren: Gage and Ellis Powner, Dayna and Zane Eaton all of Pueblo, and many, many other family members, extended family member and wonderful friends.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home.
Pat Matcalf and family would like to thank the personnel of Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center for their wonderful care and sincere compassion during Mrs. Campbell’s lengthy stay. They went out of their way to make her stay as comfortable as possible.
