

J.E. Brogden, 91, of Longview, passed away December 31, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 9, 1925 in Texarkana, Arkansas to Jim Brogden, and Erma Pixley Brogden. Mr. Brogden was drafted during high school and left to serve his country during WWII. After the war, he returned home and married Ruth Benefield March 3, 1947 in Minden, LA. He went to work for Mobil Oil in 1949 and worked there until his retirement in 1984 as a drilling supervisor. In his free time, and especially after his retirement, he enjoyed going fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed going down to Toledo Bend, where he had a camp house and could spend time with his family. He is a member of Faith Baptist Church in Kilgore.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Brogden of Longview; daughter: Sue Housley and her husband Darrell of Longview; granddaughter: Kimberly Smotherman and her husband Chad of Porter, TX; grandson: Jim Housley and his wife Kim of Lufkin; four great grandchildren: Reed, Kaelyn, James, and Ruth; and his brother: Jerry Brogden and his wife Karin of Pineville, LA; as well as a number of nieces, cousins, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Don Brogden; and daughter: Linda Ruth Brogden.
A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2016 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Housley and Pastor Scott Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
