Kenneth Franklin McKinley

Dr. Kenneth F. McKinley, 95, entered into the presence of Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father on June 14, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd, at 4:00 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Longview, Texas.

Dr. Ken, as he was affectionately called, was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and served in the peace time army prior to WWII and then served his country in the Navy CB’s during WWII in Okinawa, Japan.

After his military service he completed his education and attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, and received his masters and doctorate degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary. He served as chaplain of Gaston Hospital and teacher at Southern Bible Training School in Dallas, Texas for several years.

In 1959 he moved his family to Longview, Texas, where he served as professor of Bible Studies for Le Tourneau Technical Institute, now Le Tourneau University, until he retired.

He taught community Bible Studies in Tyler, Longview and Dallas for many years and served as interim pastor for Pinecrest Bible Church in Longview, Texas and Tyler Bible Church in Tyler, Texas. His love of Bible prophecy enabled him to take many tours to Israel and speak at numerous Bible Conferences in Australia and New Zealand. He also had his “I Found a Friend” Bible Study time that was heard on KFRO radio in Longview for a number of years.

His love for flying was instilled into his daughter, Nancy, and grandson, Joshua McKinley, both who have their private pilot’s licenses.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Thomas McKinley and his second wife, Louise Harlan McKinley and step-son, Richard Harlan.

Survivors include his brother, Carlton Eugene McKinley of Palmyra, Pennsylvania; his sons, Kenneth E. McKinley and wife, Debra of Tyler, Texas; Terry Lee McKinley, and wife, Nancy McKinley of Longview, Texas; daughters, Nancy McDaniel and husband, Steve of College Station, Texas; Mary Harlan Miller and husband, Doug of Crescent, Texas; Katharine Baumann and husband, Richard of Stokesdale, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren .
