Mary was born in Paris, Texas on May 13th, 1934 to William and Lillie Hawkins. She was the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. She grew up on the family farm in Sand Hill, Texas where her daddy grew cotton, sweet potatoes and everything else needed to feed his family. As a teenager, Mary craved adventure and moved to the Chicago, Illinois area with a girl friend she met while working as a car-hop in Longview. From there, she and two other girl friends moved to Baltimore, Maryland. There she became employed at McCormick spice factory. She then met her future husband Eddie and their daughters Brenda and Gloria where born. After they divorced she and her two daughters' moved back to Texas where she remained until her death.
Mary loved dancing, gardening, and camping. She loved buying gifts for people and anytime you visited her she would try to give you something to take home. She loved her grandsons and she lit up whenever she got to spend time with them.
As her health declined she became a resident at Gilmer Care Memory Unit. The staff loved her spunk and she kept them entertained. She loved the aids that cared for her and they loved her back.
At the time of her death she was the only one of eight siblings still living. She was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Wolf of Edenton, North Carolina who died on February 2nd, 2023.
Mary is survived by her daughter Gloria and son-in-law, Butch Rosser of Gilmer. Her grandsons, Kevin Rosser of Austin, Cody Rosser of Gilmer, Colin Rosser of Fort Worth, Daniel Wolf of Lincolnton, North Carolina, Tina Drake of Hope Mills, North Carolina, and great-grandsons Malachi and Lucas.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday February 24th at 2:00pm at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview Texas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service
