

Military services will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel Monday, October 11, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and interment at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. CMSGT. Hess passed to glory October 4, 2010.
Richard was born January 26, 1930 to Albert P. and Jessie E. Hess in Barry, Minnesota. He graduated from Hankinson High School in Hankinson, North Dakota in May of 1947 where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He entered the Army Air Corps (and later the Air Force) after graduation in June and spent 26 years serving his country. Richard married Mary Lounette East on May 10, 1950 at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. He was stationed in Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Texas, France, Germany and Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal of Valor and several other service awards. Richard retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1973. Richard drove a school bus for the New Diana School District, worked for Southwestern Gas Co. and the U.S. Postal service. He loved farming, fishing, hunting, bowling and softball and was an avid sports fan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Lounette of Diana, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Tommy Garner of Diana; grandsons James R. Matherne, Cory T.D. Garner; and granddaughter Christin L. Garner; brothers Marvin J. Hess of San Antonio, Texas and twin Robert A. Hess of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Gilbert T., Glen K., Donald W., and Wayne E., 3 sisters Geraldine J. Hess, Wilma M. Tix and Marian E. Krump.
Visitation will be at Lakeview Funeral Home on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
