Antonio Moya Silva was born on 10/15/1931 in el Cercado located in Monterrey Nuevo Leon Mexico. His Parents were Isabel Moya Silva and Sabas Silva Salazar Garda. When our Dad was 8 years old, he sold bread in the streets before and after school. His earnings were given to his parents and to also feed his little pet pig that he loved that was in the backyard. He went to elementary school in Mexico and completed 6th grade. When he was 18, he worked at a luxurious hotel called El Ambassador in Monterrey Mexico. He wore a tuxedo and was a server at their famous restaurant. He studied English to speak with tourist and visiting business clients to the hotel. Our Dad made a great salary and earned generous tips at the hotel and gave it all up to be with his mother & father and the rest of his brothers and sisters when he immigrated to the United States on 8/13/1954. He lived in Lincoln Heights, CA and worked his first year in Antioch located in Northern California for his first job at a Tomato Factory working 12 hour days Monday-Saturday. He worked overtime to save money for his wedding in Mexico and also sent money to his parents in Lincoln Heights. Our Dad said that the first 4 years in the United States was a sacrifice and very hard because he had a wonderful job in Mexico in comparison to the hard labor work at the factory. He met his first wife at a dance in El Alamo Mexico and was married in 1957 to our Mom, Maria Guadalupe Guerra from Piedras Negras Coahuila Mexico who passed away from Breast Cancer when she was 47 years old. They had 4 children Tony born in 1958, Patty 1961, Jose 1964 and Sonia 1967. He also had 7 Grandchildren Steven, Antony, Andrew, Celeste, Carla, Jose & Jazmin and two Great Grandchildren Allison & Aubrey. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Isabel Silva who was a Guadalupana at St. Mary’s Church where they met. Our Dad was part of St. Mary’s Church in the Santo Nombre where he worked as an Usher and helped church festivals for 22 years. When it came to his accomplishments, our Dad conveyed that he was very proud to buy a house on City View Ave. in East LA back in 1961 with our Mom who also worked long hours in an onion factory. It was a huge accomplishment to buy a home for his family and become an American Citizen. For fun, he enjoyed playing black jack cards at Lincoln Heights Park which included his two brothers. Our Dad worked for Aeroject Ordinance company in Downey as a Machinist for 11 years where they manufactured missles for the airforce. Via his hard work and dedication, he was promoted to Supervisor and worked 16-18 hours of overtime a week to provide for his family. He was injured at work when heavy boxes fell on his back breaking 3 disks. Later in life during his senior years, he enjoyed playing video poker in Las Vegas and then at Pechanga when he stopped driving. Our Dad had the opportunity to travel in his later years to Barcelona, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Argentina, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. His favorite music was Los Montanenes del Alamo because it reminded him of his parents and growing up in El Cercado Mexico. For our Dad, living every second of his life was important. Every morning when we asked him in Spanish how is the most handsome of all the handsomes doing, his response was “Mas Bello que Ayer, pero no tanto como Manana” which means more handsome than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow. He always loved dressing up in his suits and going out to dances as a young man and when he attended the senior citizens club in his elderly years. Our Dad’s biggest priority in life was Family and always being together. He told us that he lived a full life by working hard and dedicating himself to his family. Although our Dad was a survivor and battled Stage 4 Cancer for 4 years since his diagnosis, he lost his fight and died peacefully in our arms on Saturday night, 6/15/19. We were with him until his last breath and he is now in Heaven with God, his first wife, brother Mundo and his parents. He is survived by his brother Lalo and two sisters, Raquel and Bertha to include his 2nd wife, 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He will forever be in our hearts.
