Melinda L. Jones

Mindy was born on April 28, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA to Eleanor and Eugene Sheetz. She attended St Paul the Apostle in Westwood, CA where she later taught for two years. She graduated from Marymount High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in History from The University of California at Los Angeles.

Mindy married Kenneth Mason Jones in June 1963. They welcomed their only child, Hilary Elizabeth Jones in 1968. The couple would later go on to divorce but would remain friends.

Mindy will largely be remembered for a wonderful and full career at The Ahmanson Foundation, a career that she loved dearly and into which she poured her whole heart and soul. After her retirement in 2021, she remained grateful for the friends she made and the people and organizations she was able to help.

In addition to her career, she was an avid volunteer for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Junior Philharmonic Committee and the National Charity League.

Among other things, Mindy loved her garden, the Philharmonic, the opera and the ballet. She also had an undying love for her beloved dogs, Hobbes, Corrigan, and Stella.

She will also be remembered for her kindness, generosity, smile and humor but most of all for her fierce love for her grandchildren.

Mindy is survived by her daughter Hilary Keating (Phil) and four beautiful grandchildren; Charles (Charlie), Caroline, Clare and Katherine (Kate). She is also survived by her brother Robert Sheetz (Virginia). She was predeceased by her mother and father Eleanor and Eugene Sheetz and her brother Richard Sheetz.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends every single day.

There will be a celebration of her life on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Westwood United Methodist Church.
