Norma Fulks Boehmer died on March 23, 2018 of natural causes. She was 95 years old. She was born September 22, 1921 in Miles City, Montana. Norma’s mother, Lulu, was a homemaker and her father, Guy, worked on the railroad. Her family and her future husband’s family were friends. Norma had a younger sister, Mary Helen who looked up to her as a big sister.
When Norma was 15 years old her father went into the hospital and the family was told he died of a heart attack. He was 38 years old and the family was devastated. He was a beloved, devoted father. Norma told the story of her father staying up all night with their little terrier Skippy when he had distemper. Thanks to him Skippy was fine.
After Guy died, Lula rented out her little house and purchased a tiny general store and the three of them lived there. Norma came home right after school to help out. She was very popular and was a good basketball player.
There was no money for college, so Norma went to secretarial school. Then with WWII in full force she joined the Navy as a Wave. She served at Norfolk Virginia Naval Air Base. She did not get to go abroad as she had desired. Meanwhile, her childhood friend Howard Boehmer visited her there and began a correspondence that culminated in their marriage October 26, 1944 in Minneapolis. While he finished his doctoral thesis at Cornell University in New York (which she typed under great stress and broke out in hives), she worked at the School of Home Economics at Cornell.
Their only child, Sharon, was born November 20, 1946 in Rochester, New York.
Then the family relocated to Colorado while Howard worked at the University teaching Radiation Physics to medical students. After that they moved to Boston for Howard’s next job. Around 1958 the family moved to Los Angeles, Howard being hired at Hughes Aircraft. Norma then got to travel around the world with Howard as his work took him to many places.
Norma made friends easily and was kind, caring and encouraging to all. She was loved by all in the Assisted Living where she spent the last years of her life.
Norma trusted Jesus as her savior and she is with Him now in God’s Kingdom.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Dittrich, son-in-law Scott Dittrich, grandchildren Scott Howard Dittrich and Kristin Dittrich Kupke.
We love you Noma.
