Gary George Canant, 81, son of the late Raymond Gideon Canant and Violet Treigle Canant, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was predeceased in death by his sister Beverly Canant McGuffey and brother Lt. Col. (Ret.) Raymond (Scope) Canant. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Maxie Goldberg Canant, 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, C.W.3 (Ret.) Kevin B. Canant (Karla), Rabbi Kalman A. Canant (Sara) and 11 grandchildren: Cody, Tyler, Clayton, Shoshana, Yaakov, Fraidy, Moshe, Yehuda, Tahila, Tamar, and Yael.
Gary was a Vietnam Veteran, (Sgt.), USMC, bugler, and played taps on Memorial Day as well as funerals and military honors. He was a past Ritual Director at Congregation Beth David and blew Shofar for many years. He loved photography, woodworking, and hiking the Appalachian Trail; but above all, he loved his family and will be sorely missed.
