It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of partner, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend: John Gerard Piña, 76 of Los Osos California as of 6:45am Tuesday, May 7, 2024 Born April 26, 1948 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Mary Teresa (Salazar) and Jerry Piña he spent his youth growing up in Santa Maria and raising his family in Los Osos, California; he had a challenging, adventurous, loving and loved life. A welder by trade he worked and retired from PG&E for 30+ years. A gifted artist, his medians were far and wide; from photography, airbrush, pencil, ink, pastels, watercolor, woodworking, sculpture, to jewelry; there wasn’t a median he couldn’t master with his brilliant keen eye and creativity – his mastery truly knew no bounds. He also was a gifted writer documenting his life, loves, observations, and challenges into works of poetry sharing this fondly with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren. A proud Vietnam veteran he earned many commendations and medals was an expert marksman which he passed on to his son and daughter and created his own veterans group called VC-9 (Mike M, Mike D, Victor, Jessie, Dave, Ponce, Jimmy, and Ron), sharing their experiences, insights, and memories at local area schools through-out the years. He is survived by his partner Cathy Montes, his go to partner in life Reggie, brothers C. David (Shelley) & Jaime Piña, sister Teresa Davidson (Bill), daughter Nanette L Piña-Stevens (Derek), son Adrian G Piña, and three beautiful grandchildren Penny Ann, Adrienne, and Tanner; nieces Yesenia, Amanda, Jennifer, & nephew Evan, numerous great nieces and nephews, beloved aunt Susie Lucero and an abundance of cousins and many, many close friends. He is preceded in death by grandparents Juan & Patrocinio (Rodriguez) Salazar, uncles Pete, Joseph, & Frank Salazar, along with his wife Donna Salazar, aunt Patsy Reyes, mother Mary Teresa Piña, family members Fred Lucero, Rita & Shirley Salazar, and his beloved high school sweetheart and wife Penny L. Piña (Sledge) Funeral services will be held at Los Osos Valley Mortuary & Memorial Park on Friday June 21 from 6-8pm and on Saturday, June 22 will be a graveside service at Los Osos Mortuary & Memorial Park starting at 11am; pending reception arrangements may follow
