

Sherry Kaml passed from death to life at the age of 78 with husband Jerry at her side. She fought a valiant battle against Ovarian Cancer, knowing that her faith, family and friends were ever present to sustain her. She was predeceased by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Jerry M. Kaml and three children Larry M. Kaml (Shirley) of Nipomo, Teresa L. Kaml Cueto of San Luis Obispo, Gary J. Kaml (Nadine) of Madison, CT. and six grandchildren Matthew Kaml, Victoria Kaml, Michelle Cueto, Marcus Cueto. Christian Cueto, and Nicholas Kaml. Sherry is survived by cousins Michael Gardner (Marianne), Laraine Engel, Jeanne Scherr, Peggy Allen (Michael) and Jan Kalmus (Larry) as well as family in Texas, Minnesota and South Dakota. Sherry was born the only child of Roland Barker Engel and Inez Lorraine Gardner Engel on April 16, 1939 in Deadwood, South Dakota. The family of three relocated to California in the early 1 940s, residing in Los Angeles and Alhambra. She graduated from Mark Keppel H.S., earned an AA at East Los Angeles Community College and a B.A. and teaching credential in Music Education from California State University - Los Angeles. Sherry moved to the Central Coast in 1961 where she met her future husband in the Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church - SLOe Married in 1962, they have been SLO residents for 55 years. She was active in the music ministry of her church serving as Director of the Chancel Choir and Handbell choirs and lead various children's and youth choirs. Sherry was a Music Education Specialist for the Pismo School District and the San Luis Coastal Unified School District. She sang with the Bel Canto Singers, Trillium Trio, San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble and the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale. Being an usher/floor captain at the Performing Arts Center, she loved seeing the performances and serving the patrons. She and Jerry loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and several countries. She was a member ofPEO - Chapter KA, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Handbell Musicians of America and acquired an extensive collection of camels and nativity sets. Sherry and her family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Spillane and the staff, Dignity Health and Hospice, Dr. Scott Eisenkop and Dr. Christopher Johnson for their care and kindness. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 5 at l0:00 a.m at the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo with a reception to follow in the Wilson Hall. Cremation has taken place and her remains will be interred in a prearranged niche at the Old Mission Cemetery - San Luis Obispo.
