Ada Nellie Haney Sample, lovingly known by her family as Meme (Mimi) and Nell, was born in Valley Station, Kentucky, on March 10, 1946, and peacefully departed this earth in the early morning of October 9, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ada was the very definition of light, love, and kindness. She spent nearly 66 beautiful years with the love of her life, Charles W. Sample, always by his side through every chapter of life. Together, they built a lifetime of memories rooted in devotion, laughter, and faith — a love that was as steady as it was inspiring.
Ada and Charles loved the simple joys of life — fishing together, tending to their garden, canning the vegetables they grew, and cooking the most delicious meals that brought everyone to the table. Family meant everything to Ada. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
She was a very special person whose gentle spirit and selfless heart touched everyone she met. Her presence brought comfort, and her smile could brighten even the hardest days.
Ada was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles W. Sample, and her parents William and Mary Haney. She is survived by three daughters: Debbie (David) Carey, Lisa Elzy, and Donna Coulter. She was a proud grandmother to David Carey Jr., Emily Carey, Kayla Brown (Ray), Hanna (Jacob), Tyler, Jake (Olivia), Brent (Kristin), and Connor, and a beloved great-grandmother to Jackson (Madison), Colton (Rachael), Chloe, Marley, Drake, Brady, Xavier, and Ada May.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
“Until we meet again, may you rest in gentle peace and eternal love.”
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway.
