Ray Decker, 87, of Davie, Florida, passed away on December 13, 2020 at his home. He was born February 26, 1933, son of Chancey F. Decker and Rose Ellen Decker. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War and proudly served the country he loved.
Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great - grandfather. He was known for his quiet strength, kindness and compassion. His love for family was born out of a wonderful love story with his wife of 65 years, Betty. They are a great example of a life well lived for their four children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great - grandchildren.
He modeled devotion, sacrificial love and patience and had a great value of time and how precious it is. He enjoyed woodworking, handcrafting heirloom clocks for his family, the gift of time and remembrance that will be cherished for generations. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, supporting them in their passions and encouraging them in their endeavors. He was always there to cheer them on, time well spent.
He was a man of great faith, a servant leader and had empathy for those who were less fortunate, generously giving of his talent and resources. Prior to moving to Florida, Ray called Kentucky home. He was a member of DeHaven Baptist Church, LaGrange, Kentucky, where he was baptized and served a deacon and on numerous committees, providing many years of faithful service. He cared deeply for others partnering with his wife Betty in founding Rosehaven, a home for women and children. His heart for the suffering made an indelible impact of the many who walked through those doors.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Herron Decker; four children, David Lee Decker and wife Diane of Louisville, Kentucky, Joseph Ray Decker of LaGrange, Kentucky, Jeffery Alan Decker and wife Sally of Hickory, North Carolina, Kimberly Decker Jackson and husband Edward of Weston, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Jillian Decker Bland and husband Sammy, Adam David Decker and wife Christy, Sarah Decker Greer and husband Ryen, Tegan Jackson Alvarez and husband David, Katherine Decker Rogers and husband Chris, Thomas Chase Jackson and wife Sarah Anne, Luke Ray Jackson and wife Corinne, Joseph Jeremiah Decker, Danielle Jean Decker, Christian Wallace Decker and wife Emily, Jacob Ryan Jackson, and Nine great - grandchildren; Kendyll and Sammy Bland, Sawyer and Claire Greer, Luke and Rose Rogers, Oliver Decker, Brooks Alvarez and Mack Jackson. One brother, Gerald T. Decker of Valley Station, Kentucky.
