Barbara was a graduate of Waggoner High School ('69), the University of Kentucky ('73), where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, and received her Masters degree from the University of Louisville.
She was a retired language arts teacher with JCPS and co-owned a thriving antique business with her sister for 30 years (Two Sisters Antiques). She was an avid golfer, and loved spending time with her close crew of golfing friends and her retired teachers group. She was a cat lover, a reader, and loving wife to her late husband. Above all else, Barbara was a loving and kind soul to all who were lucky enough to know her, especially to her sister, her nieces and nephews, and close friends. She was an active member of Southeast Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken Fitzner. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Nelson Lamkin Jr (Mary Jo) of Lexington, Ky, their children Nelson III, Tyler, and Shannon; her loving sister, Linda Morgan (Patrick), and their children Leigh, Carrie, and Britton, who each helped care for her, her grandson Bryan Kloos, step children Scott and Amy, and numerous other grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and close friends, as well as a generation of students whose lives she positively impacted.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 12th, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40222. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Following the funeral service, burial will take place in Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40204.
