

Bertha was born in Mt. Carmel, Indiana on May 4, 1939. Her family moved to Brookville, Indiana when she was eight years old. She was a graduate of Brookville High School and then went on to attend Evansville College where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During her 41 year career as a nurse, she worked at Welborn Baptist Hospital, Good Samaritan Home, Evansville State Hospital, Southwestern Mental Health Association and Deaconess Crosspoint Point. Her passion was working with geriatric patients. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family to such places as the Caribbean, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Europe, London and special interest trips with Two Couple Tours, sewing aprons to gift and share, playing cards, serving on the social committee at Coach House, participating in the Second Act singing group and being a member of P.E.O Chapter U-KY.
Bertha is survived by her husband, David C. Ellerbusch, of 59 years, and her daughter, Carrie Mateja (Michael) of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Alan Mateja of Houston, TX and Paul Mateja of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Vernon Waltz (MaryEllen) of Rising Sun, IN and Gerald Waltz (John) of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Jenny Waltz-Roebke and several nieces and nephews.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; mother, Grace Alice (Fath) Waltz; father, Wayne Schofield Waltz; brothers, Keith Waltz and Dale Waltz.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am in the Narthex of the church. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 15 at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40207.
The family would like to especially thank the doctors and nurses of Norton Womens and Childrens Hospital for their dedication in Bertha’s treatment and making her comfortable in her final days.
