Brian was born March 13th, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Carol Elaine Coombs and Marvin Moore Elliott, Jr.
Brian graduated from Walnut Hills High School of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1976, then went on to the University of Louisville before joining the Air Force in 1977. Brian married Colleen East in 1977, and Patricia Ehrler in 1982. Brian assisted “Pat” in raising her two children, Thomas and Laura. Their marriage lasted until her death in 1993. Brian married Julie Potempa in 1994, and together they raised two children, Brian “Parker” Elliott and Katy Potempa. Brian spent the majority of his career at UPS Worldport at Standiford Field working in multiple roles, primarily as a marshaller, and retired in 2019.
Brian had a penchant for multiple hobbies throughout his life, and succeeded in each of them in skill, but even more importantly in creating friendships with his fellow hobbyists. In his young adulthood, Brian was an avid archer; a member of the National Archery Association, he was the winner of the Kentucky State Championship in 1976. During his marriage to Ehrler, Brian co-owned bowling pro shop PEEPS at Executive Bowl on Phillips Lane, prompting development of his bowling prowess. Brian competed regularly in tournaments throughout Louisville, achieving a perfect 300-point game in 1989. Although he stopped bowling regularly once selling the pro shop in the mid-2000s, he kept his love for bowling all of his life. Brian was a staple of the Louisville poker community, as well. Upon his retirement, Brian spent a few nights each week maintaining old friendships, starting new ones and never afraid of making more with each game.
Remaining to cherish Brian’s memory are his children Parker Elliott and Katy Potempa; his sister Dana Dean Braun (Bill); his nieces Elizabeth Braun and Jennifer Liu (Chris, son Elliott); his cousins Peter Lamb (Kathy), Laurie Ray (Hugh Hoagland), Tracie Kiefer, Curtis Essig (Kim), Laura Dean Stewart (Ron) and Arthur Lewis Robb (Debbie), Heidi Fitzgerald (Joe), Greta Kratowicz (Jeff), Eric Rudolph; and his mother’s sister, Janet Essig. Preceding Brian in death are his parents Carol and Marvin Elliott, Jr. and his wife Patricia “Pat” Ehrler-Elliott. The family wants to specially thank Dana Braun, Julie Potempa, Laurie Ray and Laura Dean Stewart for their exceeding caretaking efforts during Brian’s end of life.
Brian’s Celebration of Life will be held February 7th from 12PM-3PM at Wildwood Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
Memorial donations in Brian’s memory may be directed to the American Heart Association.
