

Darwin was born in Coldiron, Kentucky on April 9th, 1943. He graduated from Jeffersonville High School. Darwin married Alice Ray Grant on August 13th, 1966 and the two remained together until Alice’s passing last year.
Darwin served honorably in the US Army as a Specialist (SP4) working as an aircraft mechanic and airframe repairman before embarking on a 35 year career as an aircraft mechanic at Delta. Following his retirement, Darwin stayed busy as a school bus driver for the Coweta County, Georgia school system. He spoke warmly about the children on his route and cherished his friends from work until his final days. Darwin loved and supported his family constantly. His kind demeanor touched all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, parents, Albert Earl and Della Mitchell, stepfather James Mitchell, brother Roy “Butch” Mitchell, and his infant son, Adam Grant Mitchell. He is survived by his children, Kevin (Heather) Mitchell, Ashley (Derek) Worthington, and Jefferey Mitchell; grandchildren Henry Mitchell, Eva Mitchell, Ryder Worthington, and Oliver “Ollie” Worthington, and sister Shirlene Slaughter.
The funeral is being held in Newnan, Georgia on December 14th. There will be a visitation from 10 to 12 on Saturday December 17th at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
