David Clarence (Dave) Fuller passed away in Louisville, KY, surrounded by his loving family on August 3, 2025. Born on September 16, 1939 to Warren Brundage and Gladys (VandeGiessen) Fuller in Kalamazoo, MI, he was raised with two older siblings, brother Bob and sister Lois.
Dave and his family enjoyed summers on Gull Lake, spending time together, as well as with friends and cousins. Sailing, boating, and water skiing were popular activities. Dave was an average to above average student and an excellent athlete. Upon high school graduation from State High in 1957, he was recruited by legendary coach Adolph Rupp to play freshman basketball at the University of Kentucky. It was very special for Dave when UK won the NCAA tournament in 1958. He also joined ROTC and Sigma Nu Fraternity at UK. Graduating in 1962 with a B.S. in Commerce, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant before being discharged. He worked for General Electric in the Data Processing Systems Division for a year before embarking on a successful career with Honeywell Information Systems. In 1978 he departed Honeywell to follow his entrepreneurial spirit as a commercial and residential real estate developer and investor. Two of his projects included St. Matthews Village (behind Walden School) and the Estates of Chenoweth Hills (Jeffersontown).
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia (Ginny) of 47 1/2 years, daughter Theresa Papaleo (David), son David (Crystal), nephew Jim Thornton (Pam), grandchildren Kalee, Taylor, Mya, and Kailem, all who knew him as Pop, as well as two great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents, Warren and Gladys, brother Bob, sister Lois Angelo, and son Matthew (Matt).
Dave was a long time member of Christ Church United Methodist and the Friendship Sunday School class. He was a past member of Hunting Creek Country Club, and the Louisville Quarterback Club. In addition, he volunteered at SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). His passion for thoroughbred horses led him to partner in Prospector Stables. Pat's Bambino and Model Sailor were two of the stables' big winners. Dave thoroughly enjoyed horse racing. For thirty plus years, Dave and Ginny welcomed friends, out of town guests, and family to their home for a Derby Day brunch before heading to Churchill Downs.
For 19 years Dave and Ginny spent Winters at their Sandpiper Key condo in Englewood, FL, participating in social events and making good friends from across the country. These good friends have become their SPK "family".
Dave was known for a strong work ethic, integrity, commitment, sharp dry wit, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. A natural storyteller, his tales - often retold with familiar charm - brought laughter every time. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The world is dimmer without Dave's light, but his memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
We will be celebrating Dave's life on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40207. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by a service at 11:00 am with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Christ Church Methodist in memory of Dave, or a charity of your choice.
