Dennis John Meyer, born September 3, 1940, loving son of Samuel and Alvera Meyer, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 17, 2024, at Norton Audubon Hospital. Dennis lived a long and fulfilling 84 years. Survived by his beloved wife Diane O’Neil Meyer, his only child Melissa Ann Meyer Lawson (Greg), along with his grandchildren Christopher Stone Lawson, William Meyer Lawson, Lucas Barrett Lawson, Olivia Leigh Lawson, and his loving brother Ronald Lee Meyer (Ernestine).
Dennis was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended the Kentucky Military Institution. He graduated from Atherton High School. He attended the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. He was also an active member of the Kosair Shrine and Scottish Rite with his father and took pride in their many causes.
Dennis adored his family and treasured every second spent with his grandchildren. He loved attending all their sporting and school events. Dennis bestowed upon his grandchildren a variety of skills, an affinity for adventure, and a thirst for knowledge. From woodworking and craftsmanship to traveling and fun history lessons, Dennis’s imagination was boundless. He was considered “team grandpa” for all of his grandchildren’s sports and clubs. He was an avid history buff who enjoyed reading and sharing his knowledge with all. Dennis never met a stranger and treated everyone with the utmost respect. He was an avid woodworker and entrepreneur, who also enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, yardwork, computers, storytelling and above all being the consummate human being. Many considered him an unrivaled handy man. He had a gift of making anyone smile who met him. He was well known by his Hurstbourne neighbors as the “go-to-person” for anything and would volunteer for any cause. Most question not what he has done, but what he has not done during his indescribable lifetime of experiences.
There will be a private graveside memorial with immediate family along with a celebration of life for all those who had the joy of knowing Dennis. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association and Hopeful Paws Rescue, Inc. The family would like to thank those who helped in the final days at Norton Brownsboro and Norton Audubon Hospitals.
