

Dion James Van Irvin, March 30, 1939 to January 23, 2017
DION JAMES VAN IRVIN 77, passed away at his home In Louisville Kentucky, the son of Aldred Van Irvin and Myrtle (Walker) Moss was born in a home in Inkster, Michigan, the first of would be nine children.
He is survived by wives, Mazella Van Irvin and Evelyn Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his father Aldred, mother Myrtle, wife Elaine Ponder, and his sister Donna Jean Adams.
Dion attended Ann Arbor High School and afterwards joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he served with distinction in Kansas, Johnston Atoll, and Dover Air Force Base. After serving in the Air Force he returned to Michigan to begin a lifelong career as an electrician, eventually moving to Kentucky and going into business for himself. Dion’s continual push for self-improvement and mastery of his trade motivated him to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 369, in 1981 where he ascended to the level of Journeyman Wireman until his retirement in 2004.
Dion’s passion in life was his family. He was a big proponent of education and guiding his family to explore paths that would better themselves. He was an avid bicyclist as well enjoying outdoorsman sharing in activities such as camping, fishing and archery. Being truly missed, Dion left this world on January 23, 2017 at 9:19 am with seventy-seven years of living, loving, and learning.
He will be missed by his Daughter Damara, four sons, Kirklund, Brian, Ira, and Michael, thirteen grandchildren, Maya, William, Olivia, Leah, Khalil, Malik, Jamal, Aryiana, Dominick, Marcus, Derrick, Isaiah, and Zoey, and three Great- grandchildren, Kaden, Jeremiah, and Ariah. He is survived by his brothers Dennis Sabree, and Russell Moss, and his Sisters Karen, Gale and Tina Moss, Cheryl Ulmer, Michellea Forts, and their families and well as his numerous extended family and friends. Special thanks to his surrogate daughter Stacie Jenkins for providing continual loving care at the end of his life.
In lieu of flowers please, donations are being accepted to provide repairs to Dion’s house so it may serve as a medical foster home for veterans.
