I am sorry for your loss.  Don was a wonderful, funny and caring man.  He loved his family and enjoyed life.  Don will be missed by everyone who knew him.  Rose, I think of you often.   May God be with you.

Don was a great guy and I considered him a good friend since he was instrumental in getting my son, Chip, started in refereeing basketball while he was in college. Don continually ask about Chip and he was always interested in Chip's refereeing success.
Don will be missed and we pray for his family at this time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Shields.  He was a kind and caring person who helped me get started in officiating nearly 30 years ago.  I remain grateful to this day.

Don was an awesome, humble, down to earth man. He had a great sense of humor, always spoke his mind, and was a great coffee drinking co-worker at the KY Dept. of Insurance. God Bless You and Your Entire Family.

I worked with Don at Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  He was liked by everyone.  He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh.

Don was a great person. He always had a smile on his face and made you laugh. He will be missed.

A classic image....the center of attention...but very humble. 
He was a kind and gentle man.

I am truly sorry for your loss.  Don was the definition of a free spirit, and he will definitely be missed.  He was a great co-worker and friend, always willing to help out anyone in need.  My memories of Don will always bring a smile to my face, and I sincerely hope the same for you.

Unfortunately, I didn't know Don long enough.  I met him in Frankfort, Ky. when he was working with state government.  I enjoyed our time talking sports (I.U./ U.K.) and politics.  He was a barrel of fun.  May God rest his soul.  James H. Wilson, Frankfort, Ky.
