

Dorthy attended school in Graham, Texas. She played violin in the high school orchestra. In 1950, the family moved to River Oaks in Fort Worth, Texas. She completed her last year of school at North Side High in Fort Worth, Texas, graduating as Salutatorian. Her father passed away when Dorthy was in high school. She worked the soda fountain at the local River Oaks Pharmacy and for Leonards Department Store in downtown Fort Worth to help support her family.
She was active in the youth group at Castleberry Baptist Church and sang in the church choir and Ladies trio. She also taught Sunday School classes.
Dorthy and Whayne Thomas Head were married on March 13, 1955 in Weatherford, Texas. Whayne was in the Air Force at Carswell Air Force Base. They had two children: Rhonda Rene and Randy Carl.
They moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1961, but returned to Texas 18 years later.
Dorthy did not go to college but her high intelligence was recognized by her supervisors while working at General Electric in Louisville and Motorola in Fort Worth. She started working as a secretary and was promoted to Manager of engineers and IT specialists at Motorola where she retired in 2003.
Both she and Whayne served as greeters at First Baptist Dallas until she was no longer able to attend due to Parkinsons' Disease. She was faithful in watching the service on TV every Sunday and would sometimes sing along. They moved to Lexington, Kentucky in October, 2022, to be nearer to their daughter and daughter-in-law. She continued to watch the First Baptist Dallas services in Lexington.
She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and was quite talented at it. She also enjoyed reading a good book. Her favorite authors were Sandra Brown and Julia Quinn (Bridgerton series author). She was an excellent seamstress and made all of Rhonda’s clothes for school.
Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Etna Reeves; their son Randy Carl Head; and her sisters Betty Megason and Delores McNeeley.
She is survived by her husband, Whayne Head; her daughter Rhonda Rene Shelton (Michael); her daughter-in-law Willena Head; her grandchildren Leah Trout (Andrew), Allen Head, Bryan Head, Jason Head, and Lauren Tillison (Jerry); her great-grandson Tyson Trout; her sisters Linda Johnson (Jerry), Judy Andrews (Don), and Shirley Fisher; her brother Darwin Reeves; her brother-in-law Jack McNeeley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, located at 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40218, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM.
The funeral service will follow at the funeral home starting at 1:00 pm.
Dorthy will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
