Elmer Allen McDowell, age 90, was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 11, 1925 and passed away September 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church and was a retired machinist with L&N Railroad. On September 19, 1942 Elmer was drafted in to the United States Army , two weeks before he left he married the love of his life, the late Dorothy Burkhead McDowell in Simpsonville, Kentucky. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by five brothers.
He is survived by his two children, Allen Wayne McDowell (Doris) and Donna Marie Dittoe (Mike); four grandchildren, Cheri Gale McDowell, Dwayne Allen McDowell (Lori), Daryl Perkins and Alana Fox; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3-8 on Thursday and from 12-2 on Friday at the funeral home.
