

Ernest Carl Schifferdecker, 96, of Louisville passed away peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2015 surrounded by family. He was born January 26, 1919 to the late Carl and Elsa Plenz Schifferdecker. He was a WWII and Korean War Army veteran, an honored Kentucky Colonel and former editor of the Kentucky Pharmacist Journal. Ernest was a longtime member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, current member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was the proud owner of Grinstead Apothecary and Schifferdecker Farm. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, devoted grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, George, a sister, Irmgard and a niece, Cheryl.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Mabel B. Schifferdecker, children; Karen Alexander, Leah Edelen (Glenn) and Ernest George Schifferdecker (Teresa), eight grandchildren; Bryan, Bruce, Jeff, Andrew, Nicholas, Kayce, Macaulay and Tristin, eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Martha Osler of New Jersey. A special thanks to the community of Belmont Village for their love and care.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 10 am in Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with private interment in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or St. Paul United Methodist Church.
