Jeanene was born November 14, 1941, in Versailles, Kentucky to James Wilbur and Nannie B. Nichols. She graduated from Georgetown College, majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Organ. She taught in Jefferson County, but she found her true calling as a devoted ministry partner to her husband of 62 years, George Truett Cocanougher. At the various Kentucky Southern Baptist churches Truett served as pastor, Jeanene could be found accompanying choirs by playing piano or organ, teaching Bible and Sunday school, and serving in a variety of other ways.
Her other passion was her family. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Sara and Lela, and a doting grandmother to Julia, Jovey and Laney. She took great pride in her daughters and granddaughters and would often be found attending many of their activities supporting them at school plays, concerts, horse shows, sporting competitions and church events.
She found comfort in music. She would play and sing hymns on her home piano, enjoyed musicals and concerts. Even as dementia robbed her memory, she would play the piano to the delight of others even in her final months.
Jeanene was preceded in death by her parents James and Nannie B.; and a daughter.
She is survived by her loving husband Truett; daughters and sons-in-law, Sara and Steve McClain, Georgetown, and Lela and Joshua McFarland, Louisville; and granddaughters Julia McClain, and Jovey and Laney McFarland.
In lieu of flowers and customary expressions of sympathy, the family requests that donations in honor of Jeanene be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
