Evelyn "Ducky" M. Greenwell

She was born January 6, 1927 in Louisville, the daughter of the late Emile Victor and Stella Mabel (Morrison) Marrillia. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Vincent Greenwell, Jr.; and siblings, Virginia “Ginna” Monroe, Shirley Ann Berg, Patty Lou Werner, Irvin “Pete” Marrillia, Mildred “Fanny” Gray, Emile “Butz” Marrillia and Carolyn “Todd” Dye.

As a teenager, Ducky began a career at Summerville Foods, later becoming co-owner. She was of the Catholic faith and when she could no longer attend mass in person, she watched it on television every Sunday without fail. She pursued a second career later in life organizing estate sales and yard sales while at the same time curating her own collection of antiques and special finds. She found value in things that were slightly imperfect and rough around the edges but still had much to give. An avid bingo player, Ducky could be found every Friday and Sunday at the J-Town Bingo, her "lucky ducks" surrounding her at her usual table. She was a whiz with numbers, playing 18 cards at a time. She never met a stranger and always made room for one more at the table.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Cindy Vogt, Dr. Michael Vincent Greenwell, Kim Kahan and Julie G. Klier (Bob); six grandchildren, Dug Begley, Brett (Marcy), Neil and Meredith Greenwell, Lilliana Kahan and Jack Klier; two great-grandchildren, Maximus and Dominic; and two siblings, Raymond Carl “Sam” Marrillia and Nancy Nichols, and the too numerous to mention nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors whose lives she touched.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1406 E Washington Street in Louisville. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave.
