Frances Lea Bryan King, 76, Louisville, KY, died on Monday, January 23, 2017. Born on February 2, 1940, she grew up near Churchill Downs and graduated from Holy Name Grade School and Ursuline Academy (’58).
Preceded in death by her parents Charles Anthony and Viola McDaniel Bryan, her brothers Charles and Jimmy Bryan, and her beloved daughter Beverly Jo Jessie Scott.
Frances is survived by her husband, William King, her daughters Kimberly Jo Jessie Caples (Perry) and Tammy Jo Jessie Fileccia (Kent), and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren whom called her Nanny, sister Ann Borders, brother Joseph Bryan, and a large clan of nephews and nieces who enjoyed arguing which one was her favorite. Known as “Mom Frances” to half of the Southend, she had many “adopted” children with Anita Holt and Tina Taylor holding the title of “Longest Adopted Daughters.”
Another source of family for Frances was hundreds of coworkers she spent 46 years with at Whayne Supply Company. At 75-years-old, she was promoted to her first salaried position, a cherished accomplishment for Frances. But the person Frances was most committed to was her beloved hairdresser. Hospitalization did not keep her from their weekly dates. The family has much appreciation for Jenny Berg.
Frances loved horse racing, playing cards, and watching the Cards. She was in Market Square Arena in 1980 for Louisville’s first NCAA Championship. She was a Kentucky Colonel and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Frances never met a stranger. Her compassionate heart, mischievous brown eyes, and her quick wit never aged, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 28 at Holy Name Church at 2914 S Third St at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be Friday, January 27 at Arch L Heady Funeral Home at 3601 Taylor Blvd from 2-8 PM.
Memorials in her name can be made to Mass of the Air, or St. Joseph Children’s Home.
