Frances Saunders, 98, of Louisville passed from this life on Thursday July 11, 2013 at Lincoln Hills Health Center in New Albany. She was the former Frances Varner, and a retired employee of the old Stewarts Dry Goods Co. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Nat Saunders. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Newton (Dick), Margie Hockenbury (Claytos), and Ella Layman; a son, Nat “Butch” Saunders Jr., (Sherry); 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. We would like to say a special thank you to Margaret Jo Schum and family for the special care given to our mother and also to the staff of Lincoln Hills for their excellent care. A service to celebrate Mrs. Saunders’ life will be held at 10 am Monday in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
