Leon was born December 17, 1933 in Russell Springs, Kentucky to Grandparents Jackson T. and Ethel Lawhorn and mother Dolly M. Lawhorn - Cape. He was a former member of the United States Army. He was passionate about horses, long time farrier, attending the Kentucky Horse Shoeing School. He was a founding member of the Jefferson County Mounted Sheriff Posse and Kentucky Mid-State Appaloosa Horse Club, retiring from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company.
Leon is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jackson T. and Ethel Lawhorn; his mother, Dolly M. Lawhorn – Cape and wife, Shirley A. Schultz – Cape.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Doug (Patti) Cape and Steve Cape & Jeanne Portman; grandchildren, Brad, Dustin (Sarah) Trey (Tiffany) and Steven Sean (Molly); great – grandchildren, Destiny, Matthew, Mason and one on the way, the first girl in 4 generations. We also want to acknowledge Clara Powell. After the passing of his wife in 2008, Leon reconnected with Clara, a good friend from his younger days. She really helped brighten his time here, over the last years of his life.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home in the Evergreen Dignity Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:15 a.m. until the hour of service at Noon. Entombment is in the Evergreen Cemetery and Mausoleums.
