

FRANCIS EUGENE “JERRY” MUDD, III, 74, of Crescent Hill, died March 20, 2026. He was born November 02, 1951, in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late Francis Eugene “Gene” Mudd, Jr. and Cecil Ann Kelly Weibel Mudd Chinn.
Jerry was a genealogist and numismatist. He held A.A.S and B.A. degrees from the University of Kentucky and spent his career as a systems engineer and data analyst. A 1969 graduate of Trinity High School, he was on the 1965 state championship cross country and 1967 state championship swim teams, and a member of the chess team. He also swam for Lakeside. Jerry began attending grade school at St. Edward, later graduating from St. Raphael the Archangel. Jerry was a member of the Thruston Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Kentucky Historical Society and the Filson Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Stephen Mudd; stepfather, Eugene David “Gene” Chinn; stepmother, Evelyn Mudd; beloved grandparents, Carl Peter Weibel and Cecil Margaret Lehmann Kelly Weibel and grandparents, John Kenneth Kelly, Francis Eugene Mudd, Sr. and Clora Helinger Mudd, and Lillian Sophia Miller Mudd; godparents, James Bernard Mudd and Mary Lee Kelly Weibel Littlefield; brother-in-law, Kenneth R. Martin; stepbrother, Keith Hughes; dearest friends Nick Ochs and Ken Boone; and his beloved companion, Sloopy.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Dana Marie Mudd Covington Martin, Michon Janel Mudd Davis (Skip), Gia Therese Mudd-Martin (Gary); stepsister, Linda Smith (Darrell); nephews, Jad Covington (Tori), and Chris (Abby), Alex (Robyn), and Trevor (Courtney) Davis; step nephews, Teddy, Aaron and David Martin, and Ryan Smith; niece, Jaeryl Covington Huelett (Brandon); and several grandnieces and grandnephews; many cousins, including Steve Mudd (Ana) and Kirk Littlefield (Marcia); and lifelong friend, David Bierly.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 29 at 2-4:00PM with service following at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home in Crescent Hill. Inurnment will be at Cave Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy to the Trinity High School Foundation or the Louisville Free Public Library.
