He passed quietly after a valiant 3.5 year battle with cancer. Born on September 2, 1934 in North August, S.C. to George and Ella Mae. He made Louisville his home over 56 years ago working for several major construction companies. The Ireland Army Hospital at Ft. Knox, Farm Credit Bank, Humana Bldg., Freedom Hall, U of L Library, hospitals, churches, and schools in the area were just a few of the projects he was proud to be a part of. During the l980's he opened his own business, Homeowners Concrete Service, which he operated until his retirement.
George was a member of Epworth Methodist Church for over 30 years, served on the board and enjoyed playing in the Methodist Dartball League. He loved coaching and working with the boys at Beechmont Little League Baseball. He was instrumental in getting the clubhouse and dugouts built, as well as at Doss High School where his son played. His love of baseball was found in following the Cinn. Reds faithfully to his very end.
Having grown up near the Augusta National Golf Club, he had an early love for golf, and in later years he enjoyed playing with his friends in the Torro Club. He was a big U of L fan, attending many games. George had a love for fishing (always a pole in his truck), travel, his Florida home and friends, playing cards, roses and pets. His home, family and children were always the most important things in his life.
The May family wishes to thank the CBC Group of employees for being so kind. Everyone was wonderful to us. A special thank you to Dr. Ignatio Montes for his loving care and compassion
