After retiring, he worked with Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church for 21 years as the outreach minister. This career brought him the greatest joy and fulfillment; sharing the gospel and fellowship with his church family. Through his ministry, he led an innumerable amount of people to the lord and influenced countless lives. His mentor and friend, Brother Gardner, said George had “winsome ways” and often wished he could clone him. He was known for his kindness, generosity and gentle soul. As a leader in his church and family, he believed in praying hard, working hard, and trusting God. He never met a stranger, reserved judgement, and was always quick to lend a helping hand.
George loved God, his family, UofL Basketball, sunshine, dancing, and had a special affinity for ice cream, Oreos and KitKat bars, which he often shared with his grandkids. As a man of integrity, he knew that anything worth doing, was worth doing right.
