He was a truck driver.
Mr. Cockerill was preceded in rest by his parents, William and Jewell Cockerill; and two brothers, Bill and Steve Cockerill.
He is survived by his spouse of 50 years, Jeanne Cockerill; a son, Michael Wayne Cockerill (Tina); a daughter, Amy Hampton (Earl); eight grandchildren, Samantha, Evan, Zachary, Jacob, Andrew, Emma, Mattingly and Nora; two brothers, Butch Cockerill (Patti) and Jimmy Cockerill (Kellie); and two sisters, Lynn Davis and Lisa Howell (David).
His funeral will be on Monday, December 19, at 1pm at the Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, with interment following in Bethany Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 3pm until 8pm.
