Helen was a lifelong resident of Louisville and was known for her outgoing nature and her rare gift of never meeting a stranger. She was a devoted wife and mother, and the center of her family’s world. She was married to James Robert Wilkerson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Underwood (William).
Helen dedicated much of her life to caring for others—both at home and in her professional life. She worked as an office administrator at Iron Crafters Doors and Windows and for several other local businesses throughout the years. When her children were born, Helen stepped away from work to focus on raising them, always putting family first. Family was always Helen’s highest priority. She never missed a ball game, always made time for her children, and took pride in being present for the moments that mattered most.
She is survived by her children, Barry Wilkerson (Holly) and Jay Wilkerson; her grandchildren, Brittany, Alicia, Casey, Eric, and Brad; and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Helen was remarkably organized and thoughtful in ways that made people feel truly seen. She never missed a birthday. If you meant something to Helen, there was a Post-it note with your name and birthday written on it, and you could always count on a card arriving right on time. She wanted people to know they were thought of, remembered, and cared for.
Helen loved to travel and embraced life with curiosity and joy, exploring places all over the world. She cherished her friendships deeply and had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
Above all else, Helen will be remembered as someone who truly never met a stranger—a woman whose kindness, openness, and love left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A service will be held in Helen’s honor at 2 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218, with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-2 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
