Herman A. Bays

He was born on March 5, 1930 in Jonesville, VA to Robert L. and Nora Bays. Herman is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Mark, and his sister, Mardell Helton.

He was loved and will be missed by his children, Steve Bays (Cathy) and Susan Hudson (Larry); grandchildren, Matthew Bays (Whitney), Sarah Kaiser (Cory), Brian Hudson, Laura Long (Mike) and great-grandson, Drayven and many lifelong friends.

He served in the Air Force and Army Reserves and attended Union College and the University of Kentucky.

Herman retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance Company.

Herman enjoyed sharing his love of music by playing guitar in local bands here and in Texas for several years after retiring. He enjoyed fishing and was a loyal UK fan.

The family would like to give a special thanks to devoted caregivers Carmen Hardin and Geri Goodlett.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, with a service to honor the life of Herman to follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Herman will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
